Deacon Ed's Poems
Eternity Unchained

Boundless vista stretches out,
Deep blue sky meets dusty browns,
Overhead a screeching shout,
All sounds the open space now drowns.

Aged eyes 'neath worn out hat,
See what was there, but now is lost,
Mirage of water wavers there,
A life was spent in untold cost.

Moonlight streams through broken glass,
Shards reflect the many hues,
Landscape covered with dried grass,
Darkness colors now with blues.

Cold and chill now bless the Lord,
She shivers in her threadbare coat,
Held together with ancient cord,
Braided from the hair of goat.

In the dark in fits and starts,
She slumps against the aging wall,
Arms and legs now useless parts,
The ground alone can break her fall.
