Deacon Ed's Poems
Broken Vows

In silent dark desire screams,
In lonely tower heartbreak streams,
An aching need, an empty heart
Outpouring love that cannot start.

On bended knee a promise made,
Refrain, O heart, the beauteous maid,
Quell the beating of my heart,
Restrain a love that cannot start.

For to the Church I promised all,
I answered to her beck and call,
I hold His people in my heart,
Forbidden love, how does it start?

A gentle touch, caressing smile,
The devil's wise, he plays a while,
Cupid's arrows pierce my heart,
O gentle love, this cannot start!

Alone he fights against the foe,
A vow he made, O no! I cannot go.
And being man with wounded heart,
Succumbs to love, the sin does start.

So many people he has hurt,
They treat him now as one would dirt.
But from the cross forgiveness starts,
His love can heal all wounded hearts.
